8 Great Tips for Designing a New Logo

1. Know your business inside and out - know your brand, your customers.

2. Make sure your logo looks good in black and white as well as in full color.

3. A great logo is easily reproduced. Avoid gradients, 3D effects and intricate details. For example, your logo should be clear and attractive printed on a brochure, embroidered on a hat or blown up on a billboard.

4. Your logo should be readable. Avoid hard to read script fonts or tiny lettering.

5. A scalable logo is ideal. This means that it was designed in a program that allows it to be blown up large, or shrunk down tiny without compromising its clarity.

6. The best logos are professionally designed. You may have a knack for art, but a professional graphic designer can (I guarantee) make it look better. Plus, you'll be saving future headaches by having your logo in the proper format for printers or other projects.

7. Simple is best. Think of some of the most recognizable logos out there - Nike, McDonalds...simple, clean and stand the test of time.

8. Keep consistent. If you develop a new logo. Try to replace all items that have your old logo on them as soon as possible. Don't slip back into using your old logo because its easy, on hand, etc. Commit to your new logo in order to avoid confusion and fully develop your new visual brand.
