Success in Door County
Through my business and volunteer activities, I have had the pleasure of getting to know and working with some of the most successful business owners in Door County. These people, unique in their styles and types of businesses, all have several key traits in common. Even during these difficult times, I have noticed that these individuals remain true to these attributes - and their businesses are benefiting from it! My findings are below:
1. They volunteer their time. Even though they are already crazy busy with their careers and families, they still find time to give back to their community – happily.
2. They take responsibility for their own business’ success. You don’t hear these individuals blaming others when something goes awry or if business is down. They just hunker down and do what they can to fix it.
3. They are excellent multi-taskers. They understand that in order to get it all done, they need to prioritize and delegate.
4. They get out of the county from time to time. This is one I definitely can relate to. I love Door County but don’t feel that I can truly recharge unless I put some space between myself and the peninsula. New experiences spark our creativity.
5. They remain fluid. They are not afraid of change. They don’t use phrases like “We’ve always done it this way.”
6. They plan for the future. They’re in it for the long haul. They are constantly thinking growth, never stagnant.
7. They’re likeable. People like them - they have good, positive energy. They’re even nice to their competitors!
8. They know how to lead. Their staffs respect them and want to see their businesses succeed.
I hope I’ve given you some food for thought. Nothing mind-boggling or new, I know. However, a little refresher never hurts!
