Marketing Q&A:

Q: What's the difference between websites designed with tables and those designed with cascading style sheets?

A: Early on in the web age, it was found that you could use tables to lay out web pages and create some pretty neat looking websites. This was the only method available at the time. The problem is that the user had to download the images each time when opening a page, even if it was the same image from page to page. Tables also used a lot of html coding when creating the pages, increasing download time. Changing the layout was a chore as well.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) have evolved and are now the common method of laying out web pages. It is coding that is either specified in each page or linked to one master file that helps lay out web pages. You can change layouts site-wide in a matter of minutes rather than hours, be it colors, images or fonts. Images are stored into your computers memory, so once images have loaded on the first page you open, they don’t need to download that same image on any pages after, decreasing download time. CSS helps make sure that the fonts and colors you are using are the same site-wide. It also reduces the amount of HTML code that your browser has to read, reducing the amount of time it takes for pages to load.
